Finding Your MAC Address

A MAC address is a unique ID number for a network adapter (the part of your computer that connects to the internet). It's kind of like a serial number for an internet-capable device.  Any device that connects to the internet (or a local network) has a MAC address - desktop computers, laptops, tablets, game consoles, and many other things. For many of our connections, the MAC address of the device is required to register your device and use it on the network.

This article only discusses how to locate the MAC address. Other articles will discuss how to use that MAC address once you have located it.  Be sure to write down the MAC address once you locate it so you will have it available when you need it to enable a wired or wireless connection.  If you don't find your specific device listed, please refer to the manufacturers instructions that came with you device or system. The instructions provided in this article are the basics needed to locate the MAC address. Other articles may contain more detailed instructions for certain devices.
